Airborne Hydrography AB (AHAB) awarded Best Optics and Photonics Company

AHAB, an affiliate company of Leica Geosystems that works closely with the Geospatial Solutions Division, is the winner of this year’s PhotonicSweden’s industry award for its contribution to the field of photonics, for developing and marketing an airborne measurement system based on LIDAR technology and for its technological strength and successful business development. The prize was handed to CTO Andreas Axelsson at a ceremony, which took place today at the Optics and Photonics Conference in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Each year, the renowned organisation, PhotonicSweden, awards a prize for the year’s best company in optics and photonics, in terms of both business and technological advancement.

The jury’s motivation:
Airborne Hydrography AB (AHAB) is a Swedish company with cutting-edge technology within the field of photonics, that develops and markets airborne measurement system based on LIDAR technology.

The technology makes it possible to quickly and efficiently map land topography in 3 dimensions. They have also developed a unique technology to create 3-dimensional images of ocean and lake bottoms. Their system sends out laser pulses and uses advanced optoelectronics to collect the reflected pulses. AHAB has also developed its own advanced algorithms and software to convert the optical measurement signal to geometric information. The systems are used e.g. to measure coastal erosion, but can also be used to create charts. Click here to read more.
