China embraces wearable technology to capture never-before-mapped areas

China’s population is projected to hit 1.42 billion this year – it’s officially the largest country in the world and is changing and growing at an incredible pace. A third of China’s population live in urban areas, and it’s home to the world’s largest city – Shanghai – which has a population density of 3,800 people per square km. The need for and pace of infrastructure change is simply staggering – I was witness to this on a recent trip to Beijing for HxGN LOCAL China 2018. It’s also why China is embracing the concept of a wearable mobile mapping system. The flexibility to map in areas where only pedestrians can walk is a growing imperative.
